GRAS Artificial Ears, Ear & Mouth Simulators

Artificial Ears, Ear and Mouth Simulators

GRAS artificial ears and ear & mouth simulators are designed to enable measurements under well defined acoustical conditions. The solutions available include:

  • Externally polarized cartridges (200 V)

  • Mouth simulators

  • Prepolarized cartridges (0 V)

  • Without microphone cartridges

GRAS externally polarized measurement microphone cartridges are designed for use with standard preamplifiers featuring a 7-pin LEMO connector. These preamplifiers require connection to a compatible power module or analyzer input capable of delivering both the necessary supply voltage for the preamplifier and a 200 V polarization voltage for the microphone.

The GRAS Mouth Simulator is an acoustic source designed to replicate the sound field near the human mouth, adhering to standards IEEE 269, IEEE 661, and ITU-T Recommendation P.51. It is primarily used for evaluating telephone mouthpieces and other types of microphones commonly found in communication systems.

Prepolarized microphones are generally paired with CCP (Constant Current Power) preamplifiers. To operate correctly, they need to be connected to an input stage designed for CCP-compatible transducers or powered through an appropriate CCP power source.

GRAS provides one of the most comprehensive selections of ear simulators and acoustic couplers in the industry. Their portfolio includes the complete range of simulators compliant with IEC 60318-1 through 60318-5, along with several enhanced versions of the IEC 60318-4 ear simulator, specifically designed to address modern testing requirements.

The available solutions include:

  • A standard IEC 60318-4 ear simulator

  • A low-noise variant capable of measurements down to 10.5 dB, ideal for quiet signal detection

  • A high-frequency model supporting measurements up to 20 kHz, suitable for extended bandwidth testing

  • A Hi-Res version engineered for accurate response up to 50 kHz, meeting the demands of high-resolution audio applications

GRAS offers preconfigured, ready-to-use systems tailored for a variety of needs—from compliance with IEC standards to advanced testing with anthropometric pinnae and high-frequency performance evaluations. Whether you're conducting standardized measurements or pushing the boundaries of audio testing, GRAS delivers flexible and precise solutions to match your requirements.
